Sir, – I was somewhat bemused to read the criticisms of Irish university presidents for “for their delay in bringing forward new proposals on the points system” (Front Page, June 13th). I was the key-note speaker at a recent conference organised by Trinity College Dublin which addressed this very issue, and which was reported by this newspaper (“Alternative to points system proposed”, Breaking News, May 18th). The conference is available to watch in full on the Trinity website, and readers may be interested in following the discussion, especially the idea of piloting alternative admission schemes in the near future. – Yours, etc,
