Madam, – In your photo coverage of Argentina’s bicentennial independence celebrations, (World News, May 26th), you missed the important and highly relevant fact that the “singing soldier” was a member of the 1st Patricios infantry regiment of the Argentine army, its senior unit, the name of which commemorates Irish volunteers who participated in the defence of Buenos Aires against two British attacks in 1806 and 1807.

The Patricios Regiment is one of the Argentine army’s two elite units, together with the mounted presidential escort, the Granaderos a Caballo and both perform ceremonial functions at the capital, wearing traditional uniforms. – Yours, etc,
