Sir, – I am angry and frustrated at the latest military adventure from the Minister of Defence on behalf of Ireland (Front page, February 14th).
I strongly believe that the Irish people did not sign up to be in Europe for this. First Afghanistan, then Sudan, and now Mali. What right have we, a small nation many thousands of miles away from a country in Africa to intervene in their affairs?
Lately we have heard comments from Minister of State Lucinda Creighton that she would be very supportive of Ireland joining a common defence arrangement and on Monday for the first time on Irish soil we had the Nato general secretary Anders Fogh Ramussen here, urging closer co-operation between Ireland and Nato (World News, February 11th). – Yours, etc,
