Sir, - May I confirm that Gerry Lawless (April 16th) is not the only one to suffer high levels of irritation at this vulgar intrusion. However, as the nonusers of mobile phones were there before the current epidemic broke out, may I suggest that the fairer and more customer-friendly way to deal with the problem would be for Iarnrod Eireann to herd those who wish to use mobiles into one carriage and leave the rest of us, making up the vast majority, to our choice of carriages.
Bearing in mind CIE's traditional attitude to the train-travelling public I fear any such initiative on their part is extremely unlikely. - Yours etc.,
