Sir, - Shame on a Government which allows the expenditure of over £4 million on a millennium monument which, it appears, very few people, bar those in Dublin Corporation, actually want, while Inisbofin Island loses three of its inhabitants in a fire which could not be fought effectively due to a lack of fire-fighting equipment.
Let's stop squandering money on the millennium hype and put it instead into the many areas in this country where it is badly needed.
