Motorists and cycle lanes

Madam, - Clara Clark (June 20th) rightly points out some of the hazards faced by cyclists on a daily basis in Dublin.

However, she fails to mention the increasing numbers of cars, taxis, buses and lorries that park in cycle lanes during morning and evening rush hours, while their drivers buy a paper or coffee, make a delivery and so on.

These thoughtless drivers force cyclists out from the relative safety of the cycle lane into busy traffic.

It is, according to the various Road Traffic Acts, illegal to park in such a way that endangers another road user.
