Madam, - The world has grown weary of Northern Ireland and is impatient for a solution to its political problems, the Church of Ireland Primate of All Ireland has said.

"Irish history is ready to move on", Archbishop Robin Eames told Reuters news agency.

Judging by the negative response from the DUP, his supplication will fall on deaf ears, for they seem to be devoid of any intent to shift the present impasse, which is to the vast majority a negation of the democratic process.

Peace is more than the silence of canons. It represents a state of harmony. It bears no relation to peaceful co-existence, which is merely a cloak for the chicanery, the bitterness, the ideological clashes and the radical unionist prejudices that smoulder towards explosion in Northern Ireland.

In fact it is not physical disarmament which counts, but the disarming of hearts and minds. The advent of true peace does not depend solely on the wisdom of the Great Powers, but also on the modification of human thinking and human relationships and on the dialogues which each of us must agree to undertake with others. - Yours, etc,
