Sir, - Your stance in support of your newspaper and your correspondent is laudable, but may I respectfully suggest that, in the universal order of things, Mary Robinson deserves the support of every civilised person in the world. She's doing probably the most difficult job on earth, for the betterment of everybody on earth.

She did an outstanding job for Ireland as our President and I can only feel that this small controversy, whether you are right or wrong, reflects badly on Ireland and what should be its wholehearted support for her in trying to improve human rights. - Yours, etc., Seamus O'Meagair,

Beechlawns,

Mullingar.
