Sir, – Further to Melanie Hunter-Reid's letter (October 30th) relating to the MS Readathon, feedback from parents is welcomed and we are thankful to Ms Hunter-Reid for her interest in the organisation. We are delighted that her daughter is taking part. MS Ireland appreciates the great efforts of children all over Ireland in the MS Readathon to help people with multiple sclerosis in their communities, and also the support of their parents, teachers, schools and libraries. Our research with parents and schools has informed us that rewards and prizes are a positive and valued part of the campaign, for those that choose to avail of them. Reading is at the centre of the campaign and our activity during MS Readathon includes book reviews, writing competitions, author tips and advice, reading lists and lots more, putting the focus on reading. The organisation also works on building awareness of multiple sclerosis among children with visits from our MS ambassadors, people with MS, telling their story to increase understanding of the condition. – Yours, etc,
