Sir, - The maxim of the law, qui tacet consentire - "silence gives consent" has a particular resonance in Ireland today after the murder of two RUC officers by the IRA.
We should be heard as one condemning this callous act or else share in the blame for the continuation of violence by terrorists in the North. We have allowed the terrorists on both sides to ride roughshod over the majority's wish for peace for too long. - Yours, etc.,
