MUSIC AT CROKE PARK

RUTH HURLEY,

RUTH HURLEY,

Sir, - I attended the Clare-Killkenny hurling final and enjoyed the great spectacle and the tremendous atmosphere in the new Croke Park. But I was greatly disappointed with the half-time entertainment. The Irish dancing and music is always welcome, but the operatic-style versions of folk songs, along with cabaret songs, were inappropriate.

If a change is required, one might suggest that rather than, for example, the lovely Rose of Clare or Rose of Mooncoin sung in operatic style, the selected song of the county should be sung in traditional style, or indeed by a singer from the county in question.

I look forward to many more exciting and enjoyable matches, without the echoes of "I love you baby" resonating in my ears. - Yours, etc.,
