Music While You Travel

Sir, - Stanley M. Wilson (October 17th) is not alone in being subjected to enforced annoyance on public transport. I frequently travel by the Longford morning bus to Dublin and have to suffer the ordeal of the trivialities and phone-in intimacies of one of the radio chat shows. I had prolonged correspondence with the management of Bus Eireann in 1994 but failed to get redress, so my ordeal continues.

Public transport is for carrying people without the addition of punishment of unwanted discussion (sometimes drivel), interspersed with music. The transport authorities would appear to be in breach of the Environmental Protection Act 1992 which deals with noise pollution in public places. - Yours, etc., Michael P. Flynn,
