Madam, – For the second time in as many months the Government has chosen to ignore the advice of the Ombudsman (Home News, April 29th). The latest advice from that office is that freedom of information regulations should apply to Nama. That the actions of Nama should be shrouded in secrecy is an insult to every citizen of this State.

It is now expected that taxpayers will bail out speculators, cronies and disgraced politicians without any accountability for the massive amounts of money involved. The Ombudsman’s office has defended the rights of ordinary citizens without fear or favour. We should now defend the office in the knowledge that public outrage is far greater than Government fear. – Yours, etc,
