Sir, – Rather than name the new bridge on the Liffey exclusively for the Abbey Theatre, as is advocated by the theatre itself, it might make more sense to call it Theatre Bridge, given its linking of the Abbey site and the famous, old Theatre Royal location at Hawkins Street. Such a name would be more suitable than naming it for some citizen, no matter how worthy, as this can date rather quickly.
The title Theatre Bridge could then act as a spur for the rejuvenation of some artistic performance space on the southern part of the river, with an appropriately named bridge to link the two. – Yours, etc,
