A chara, - Full marks to Dr Pat Wallace for the thoroughly patriotic speech he delivered at the Béal na mBláth commemoration (The Irish Times, August 25th). This country has indeed a glorious history and one of which all Irish people should be proud.

On the issue of place-names, he is right to be appalled at the proliferation of ridiculous housing project titles clearly aping the manors of the English aristocracy.

While I appreciate his sentiment that the drive for using Irish place-names should come "from the hearts of the people", I feel the Government has an obligation to ensure that property developers use only Irish names for Irish real estate and should legislate accordingly. - Is mise,
