Sir, – Now that the issue of naming rights for the RDS is in the news again, might I suggest that the hard-pressed citizens of Ireland consider putting the naming rights for their places of residence out to tender also (“Liberty Mutual in talks over RDS naming rights”, Business, August 6th).
This might go some way towards defraying the cost of the household tax. To make the proposition as attractive as possible to brand-owners and home-owners alike, some kind of synergy could be invoked leading to exciting new addresses such as Toyota Drive (or Mercedes Drive in more upmarket areas), Penney’s Lane, Quality Street, Ronseal Wood, Whiskas Mews, Philishave Close, etc.
Some of your readers may feel that we should not go down this road but others may think it a route worth considering. – Yours, etc,
