A chara, – An interesting and laudable idea from Taoiseach Leo Varadkar regarding the naming of schools after founders of the State ("New schools should be named after State's founders, Varadkar says", News, September 15th). What a pity he spoiled the suggestion by saying that he "wouldn't be proposing that that be a decision for Government", but rather one for the school patrons. The State will build and fund the schools and pay the teachers but it cannot or will not choose the name of the school. Subsidiarity is alive and well! – Yours, etc,
