Sir, - My daily brain-dead vigil at a bus-stop in Kildare Street was this week significantly relieved by an emerging transformation in the streetscape. After months of cleaning and stone restoration on the National Museum of Ireland, the protective covers were removed from the first section to reveal a result of truly startling and sensuous appeal.

General surface erosion and visual pollution caused this building to disappear from consciousness in recent decades. It was, sadly, an architectural slum. Now, there are clear lines and a restored surface in the structure and ornamental design of this fine building. But, it is the refreshed and glorious sandstone from Bath, in glowing hues of beige and fawn, that creates the unique effect. This is beauty for the eye of any beholder! - Yours, etc.,
