Sir, - With reference to Kevin Myers's Irishman's Diary of August 1st, the code-talkers in the Pacific theatre in the second World War were Navajo, not Cherokee - different nation, different language, different culture, different geography.
But that's OK; I'm sure the Navajo don't mind being mistaken for a completely different group of people. Just don't complain the next time a bunch of American tourists ask where all the kilt-wearing bagpipers are. - Yours, etc.,
