Sir, – Conor Gallagher's report regarding the decommissioning of a third of the Naval Service fleet highlights once again the ongoing crisis regarding recruitment but particularly retention of personnel (News, March 29th). Until the issues of pay, allowances and conditions of service are adequately addressed, the crisis will continue. The Commission on Defence has submitted its report. It's time for Minister for Defence Simon Coveney and Government to address the crisis and provide adequately for the defence of the State. – Yours, etc,
