Madam,- Isn't it a sad state of affairs that when a Minister, such as Seamus Brennan, simply does his job and faces down vested interests in the interests of the public he is lauded and congratulated?
The fact is that we have become accustomed to a set of politicians who lack idealism or ability. Not only do they have little vision of what kind of Ireland they wish to create, they don't have the inclination to do the work to get us there.
It seems the only time anything is done is when the political pressure is too great to withstand and they must move.
Ireland has undergone enormous change. Our wealth means that we have to mature and become aware of the world around us.
We have cast away some old and outdated attitudes and also have begun to see what possibilities lie ahead for a small island nation like ourselves.
Our leaders, however, caught in yesterday's arguments and attitudes, cannot see anything beyond the next election.
More recycling won't win you an election but it'll make this world more habitable in 20 years, and giving more chances to the socially vulnerable probably won't win you their votes but it could eliminate poverty.
There is a better way. I demand that our leaders do their jobs and lead! - Yours, etc.,
