Sir, – Eamonn McCann states that Israel’s prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu is showing a lot of chutzpah for speaking before the US Congress to request the US to intervene to prevent Iran acquiring nuclear weapons (“Sparks fly over Israeli prime minister’s US visit”, Opinion & Analysis, February 26th).
Why chutzpah? Iran is constantly threatening Israel with obliteration.
Is it brazen to do all you can to keep your mortal enemy from getting weapons to destroy you? The Iranians already have the means to deliver these weapons in a much-boasted-about arsenal of long-range rockets.
As for Mr McCann’s dismissal of Iran’s nuclear capability, are we to ignore the International Atomic Energy Agency’s report on Iran’s refusal to be transparent with international inspectors?
If it takes chutzpah to warn the world about this threat, then thank goodness for people like Binyamin Netanyahu and the US Congress for taking this situation seriously. – Yours, etc,
