News needs a health warning

Madam, – I enjoy reading The Irish Times every day, even at the height of our worst ever financial recession. However, I am now of the view that your Front page needs to carry – I nearly said a Government Health Warning – but on reflection, leave the Government out of that and let’s just call it a “Public Health Warning”.

The latest blood-pressure-rising piece was “Nama contract is hot property for PR Firms” (back page of Business This Week, March 5th). Seemingly Nama needs to engage a PR company (at what cost?) “to provide regular updates to the public about the progress of its (surely you mean our?) €54 billion project”.

I for one, a shareholder in Nama, say no we don’t need a PR company!

What we need is the secondment of one or two of the excellent communication/ information officers in the public sector to fill this role. The shareholders of Nama should tell the Nama executives to wake up and that “old practices” have changed. The “gravy train” is over! – Yours, etc,
