A Chara, - In the course of a series of articles taking an in-depth look at Sinn FΘin, a comment was attributed to the Sinn FΘin President Gerry Adams, by an unnamed source, claiming that our involvement in the Treaty of Nice campaign was merely an attempt to gain publicity (The Irish Times, July 31st). Mr Adams never made this comment.

Sinn FΘin is a republican and labour party. We believe that the wealth created by the Celtic Tiger should be shared through investment in affordable housing, health, education, transport, protection of the environment, childcare and services for the elderly and young people.

In relation to the EU, Sinn FΘin favours and actively promotes fraternity and co-operation between nations and member-states across the continent of Europe. We oppose the creation of a new superpower, an EU superstate with its own army, dominated by the largest countries. That is why we called for a No vote in the Treaty of Nice referendum, and not as a publicity gimmick. - Is mise,

Dawn Doyle, Director of Publicity, Sinn FΘin, Parnell Square, Dublin 1.
