A chara, - Had we ratified the Nice Treaty, the Coalition would presumably have patted the nation's head and congratulated us for our "good sense", with the other main parties standing by and nodding approval.
As a majority of those motivated to turn out and vote, has rejected Nice for a wide range of reasons, we are now told that the electorate was confused, misinformed, rushed, and that a second referendum, with a higher dose of poster paint and Fianna Fail fuel, would yield the result desired in Leinster House.
Furthermore, instead of acknowledging the democratic wish of the people for what it is, Nice proponents find it "embarrassing" in a European context.
The promised referendum on the PfP never materialised. Could it be that the people of Ireland have more sense and a longer memory than is allowed for by the Coalition Government? - Is mise,
