Sir, - Given the appalling human rights record of the Abacha regime, I find it ridiculous that Mr Edwin E. Edobor of the Nigerian Embassy should claim that Nigerians have no reason to seek political asylum in Ireland. The execution last year of Ken Saro Wiwa, a leading human rights campaigner, is just one example of the Nigerian government's continuing persecution of tribes living on oil rich lands. It is beyond me how Mr Edobor can be so bare faced as to suggest that such abuses are "concoctions". If Nigerians are such "happy people", why are they so anxious to leave his country? Yours, etc.,
