Sir, - In this day and age it is almost beyond belief that the innocent victim of a crime should be punished in any way, not to mention being subjected to the barbaric treatment described in Father O'Sullivan's letter of December 21st.
Any country which condones the stoning to death of anyone does not deserve its place in the comity of nations and if the barbaric sentence passed on Safya Husseini Tungar-Tudo is carried out, Nigeria should be ostracised by the rest of the world. - Yours, etc.,
M.D. Kennedy, Silchester Park, Glenageary, Co Dublin.
