Sir, - I know it is only a small thing, but the caption accompanying the report on ants (The Irish Times, April 5th) mistakingly referred to the red ant (myrmica rubra) as lasius niger. Lasius niger is in fact the black garden ant. Please do not get members of the hymenoptera family mixed up again. - Yours, etc.,
