A chara, - In May 2003 Dublin City Council voted in favour of preserving 16 Moore Street and transforming it into an information and education centre.

Over the Christmas period the leaseholder moved to another premises, leaving this national monument exposed to the elements. The association would like to know what measures the council plans to take to ensure the preservation of this national monument for the nation, particularly in light of recent developments.

On Monday May 12th, 2003, many councillors were very happy to march from 16 Moore Street to City Hall. We now call on these same councillors to show the same enthusiasm again.

No. 16 Moore Street is a national monument, and it can be restored and incorporated into the existing development. No meditative memorial, no room in the back of the GPO displaying artefacts from 1916 can replace the feeling of being in the Irish Alamo. The importance of this building is well documented to the extent that the Government in 1966 saw fit to mark it with a commemorative plaque. What has changed?
