Sir, - Proposals to erect a large cross at Carraroe and a statue of St. Brendan at Fenit have recently been turned down by An Bord Pleanala on the grounds of being "visually intrusive", according to newspaper reports.
It's just as well that An Bord Pleanala was not around when the Pyramids were being built - nor Mont St-Michel, Cologne Cathedral, the Parthenon, the Eiffel Tower, St Peter's in Rome, the Statue of Liberty, Christ the King overlooking Rio, to name but a few that come to mind. - Yours, etc.,
Louis Power, Loughlinstown, Co Dublin.
