Sir, - In your editorial (January 28th) you stated that the south-east was the only region in this country that was not served by an institution of university stature. The north-west, which is an equally well defined geographical region, is also in a similar if not worse situation. Sligo is further from the nearest university town, Galway, than Waterford is from Cork and is further from Dublin than both Waterford and Wexford. The whole of County Donegal is even more distant from such institutions in this Dublin than both Waterford and Wexford. Outside the political consideration of defusing the demand for a university in Waterford, there is not sufficient difference on educational grounds for deciding that one apple be picked from the RTC tree and turned into a pie. - Yours, etc.,
