Sir, - Mattie Hill (June 7th) suggests that the sacraments should not be available to non-practising Catholics, and that the Church should not be used by them as a backdrop to their "big day".
It is rather sad that he should judge others so harshly. I always understood that the Church was intended for all, and that sinners were as welcome as saints. The Church also allows anyone, no matter how vile a life led, to atone for his/her sins up to the last breath of his/her being. Should we not, therefore, rejoice and be glad that so-called "bigday" users at least have made the effort, even if only for their childrens' sakes? Who knows what enlightenment they may find on such a happy occasion. - Yours, etc.
