Madam, - Any serious proposals to improve the well-being of people in Northern Ireland ought to follow responsible debate on John Hewitt's diagnosis of our problems, written over 30 years ago:

"We have had enough of the rigid clichés of stubborn politicians, the profit-focused intensity of men of business, the dogmatic arrogance of the churches, the intolerance of sectarians, the lack of human sympathy of doctrinaire ideologues, all those whose ready instinct is for violence in word and act".

Otherwise the bloody roundabout of disruptive events will continue to turn, with unavoidable and adverse consequences for humanity.
