Madam, - It is heartening to see such well-known and highly regarded figures who are prepared to stand up in the face of Dublin City Council's ill-considered decision to fell the remaining mature trees in O'Connell Street (Letters, September 11th).
The abject neglect with which Dublin City Council has treated the northern end of our capital's street is perhaps typified by the advertising display cabinet just to the north of the tree-line. In the cabinet, citizens and visitors alike can read details of Pat Liddy's exhibition in Dublin City Hall detailing the "changing face" of Dublin.
All well and good, except for the rather pedantic detail of the exhibition having closed in mid-September 2003. A city council with its finger on the pulse, indeed. - Yours, etc.,
BILLY FLEMING, Belgard, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
