Sir, - Bertie Ahern and Mary Harney are often fond of telling us what the people want, or don't want, as the case may be. This is usually done without the aid of an opinion poll. I am constantly amazed at their innate ability to read the collective mind of the electorate on so many issues.
W ell, there's no need to tax your cerebral lobes any further on the Hugh O' Flaherty situation: 68 per cent of the people polled in the Irish Times/MRBI opinion poll believe the Government was wrong to nominate Mr O' Flaherty as vice-president of the EIB.
Over to you, Bertie and Mary. - Yours, etc,
Richard Burke, Victoria Terrace, Ennis, Co Clare
