Sir, - Now the ESB workers have withdrawn their claim for hearing loss compensation, the way is open for another section of society to make their claim. Who are more deserving than our politicians whose work subjects them to almost continuous damage to their ears daily in the Dail?
The fact that most have suffered severe hearing loss is evident in that they seem deaf to the voice of the Irish people. Irrespective of how this voice is raised - in a referendum, local election, radio phone-in or (if I dare mention the term), opinion poll - there is no response.
Fortunately, even the deaf can still read The Irish Times, though they may wish to turn a blind eye to the Letters page. - Yours, etc.,
Michael O'Toole, Rochestown Avenue, Dun Laoghaire.
