A chara, – Frank Byrne (January 10th) sees the few tents of the Occupy encampment at the base of the Central Bank as the “carbuncle” on Dame Street. And yet in another era after its construction (which was in breach of the original planning permission), it was the bank building itself which was seen as the “carbuncle” on Dame Street. Perhaps it is all somewhat symbolic of Ireland these days: ignore the large all-powerful over-bearing financial institution in breach of regulations and blame the ordinary citizen at its feet. – Is mise,
