Sir, - As Richard Roche pointed out (October 5th), "Rβsc·rsa" and "Ceannceathr·" are pathetic examples of how the Irish language can be distorted. Even more disturbing is the title "Gaelβras" which is erected outside the Gaelic League headquarters in Derry to describe its central office building. It seems that even those who work to revive Irish don't know that the adjective follows the noun!

The great Irish writer Seosamh Mac Grianna once remarked that the death of a language is painful to observe, but if he were alive today I am sure he would put that in stronger terms, because there is no more effective way to destroy Irish than to apply English grammatical rules to its structure. - Yours, etc.,
