Sir, – Your news report (December 28th) that €350 million worth of Irish pounds remain to be handed in reminds me of an incident on the first day of the circulation of the euro.
I was having an afternoon drink in a pub in southwest Donegal. Naturally, the talk was all of the new money. A man came in and was asked by the publican if he had changed all his old money. “I have not,” he replied, “I’ll get more for it when it gets scarce.”
