Madam, – I would agree with Kevin Courtney’s positive review of Eric Clapton’s Dublin concert this week (Home News, May 10th).
However, perhaps he thinks Clapton’s nickname of “God” is justified, as he makes no mention of his unfriendliness towards his faithful audience. The event was one of the best musical experiences of my life, but Eric’s expressionless interaction with the audience was limited to “Good evening”, “Thanks for coming”, and a “Thank you” after most songs. We didn’t get a goodnight, just a bow at the end of the only encore.
His support act, Andy Fairweather Low and the Low Riders, were quite the opposite – charming, appreciative, friendly and witty. Eric Clapton is a perfectionist and a master of what he does, but a pleasantry here and there would not go amiss. – Yours, etc,
