Sir, - Seamus O'Reilly (February 16th) comments on Dublin Bus drivers who disregard traffic signals at red. May I comment on another activity by some drivers?
I recently boarded a 29A bus at Donaghmede Shopping Centre and noticed that the driver was deep in conversation on a mobile telephone. When I disembarked further on, the driver was still chatting away animatedly - having negotiated tricky junctions at Kilbarrack Fire Station and Raheny Church while steering with one hand.
It is bad enough to have to endure passengers using mobile phones but it is really intolerable for drivers to join in the general babble. - Yours, etc.,
Owen D. Clarke, Raheny, Dublin 5.
