Madam, – Regarding Pat O’Neill’s heartfelt plea (April 1st) for Christians, like myself, to boycott the Munster v Leinster match, I have two observations.
First, rugby has done more for this country in the past few years to make all of us proud to be Irish, than some of the main institutions in this country. Second, boycotting a rugby match will not send any message to those responsible for bringing the country to its knees. I doubt they even care.
I shall watch the game, I shall cheer for Leinster, I shall also attend to my Christian duties on the day.The day is no less a day of reflection because a game of rugby is taking place. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Reading Andrew Peregrine’s epistle from “The Cloisters”, Terenure (March 31st), my admiration of his grasp of Scripture was somewhat dented when he suggested that Noel Healy “go to Mass” on Good Friday.
As Good Friday is the one day of the year Mass is not celebrated, may I respectfully suggest, to use an old Dublin expression, Mr Peregrine go and get a Mass said for himself? – Yours, etc,
