Sir, - I wish to disagree with the opinions of Frank Fitzpatrick (September 16th), on Kipling's status as a writer and to agree with your reviewer, Kevin Myers.
Kipling is a master and, particularly in his short stories, ranks in the top rank with Pritchett, Peter Taylor, Richard Bausch and Raymond Carver.
