Madam, - Opponents of the smoking ban have in your columns in recent days referred to the measure in varying disparaging terms.
These latest efforts to undermine the ban include the asinine suggestion that because immediate and necessary legal steps were taken to ensure that the law was complied with, "bully boy" tactics were employed to deal with the situation.
Since this ban was introduced, I have never enjoyed my couple of pints of stout as much as I now do in a smoke-free atmosphere, freed at last from "bully boy" tactics of publicans who, in effect, forced me for years to "enjoy" my drinks in a smoke-filled environment. - Yours, etc.,
TONY TAAFFE,
