Opus Dei

Sir, - I would like to reply briefly to the self-styled Queen Marie of Romania (David Grant, August 21st)

Sir, - I would like to reply briefly to the self-styled Queen Marie of Romania (David Grant, August 21st). There are quite a number of "families" within the Church (e.g. Christian Family Movement, St Vincent de Paul Society, Opus Dei, Legion of Mary, Focolare, etc.) whose purpose is, each according to its character, to help Catholics to become more Christ-like. These families do not exist to follow a social and political agenda. Nevertheless, this Christ-likeness, this growth in holiness in Christians, the work of the Holy Spirit, must affect, in due course and in some way, their personal, domestic, social and professional lives. Otherwise holiness wouldn't be real, it wouldn't have much meaning.

May I suggest that Queen Marie lay aside her handbag of prejudices and go in search of the truth, like another royal, the humble Queen of Sheba. - Yours, etc., SEAN WOODS,

Mount Prospect Drive, Dublin 3.
