Orangemen at Drumcree

Sir, - For once I agree with Harold Gracey. He says he is ashamed to be a member of the Church of Ireland. Many C of I people, myself included, have been ashamed that Mr Gracey is a member for the Church of Ireland for some years now.

Can we finally destroy the myth that Drumcree is about civil and religious liberty? I walk to my (Church of Ireland) church through the New Lodge, one of the most staunchly republican areas in Northern Ireland, every Sunday. No-one has ever said a dickie bird to me. Could it possibly be because I walk along the pavement, rather than the middle of the road, and am not generally accompanied by several dozen drunken teenage louts masquerading as a flute band?

The real agenda of the Drumcree protest is the destruction of the Good Friday Agreement, plain and simple, and after Gracey's antics no-one can deny that any longer. - Yours, etc.,

Gerry Lynch, Chairperson, North Belfast Alliance Association, Belfast 15.
