Sir, - As Presbyterian members of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church, may we respectfully remind Vincent Twomey (May 8th) that it has not been the unanimous mind of all branches of "the Church" for the past 2,000 years that any attempt "to ordain a woman would be utterly null and void". The code of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland reads: "Women shall be eligible . . . for ordination on the same conditions as men."
For many of us, the fact that Scripture scholars - however belatedly - are capable of changing their minds is a compelling testimony to the grace of God. This is perhaps especially true when the matter under consideration is ordination, on which, arguably, the New Testament has little to say. And given the track record of all our traditions in interpreting the mind of Christ, who would have it otherwise? - Yours, etc., Rev Katherine P. Meyer, Rev C. Mary Hunter,
