Sir - Vincent Twomey writes (May 8th) that "any attempt, even by a validly ordained Bishop, to ordain a woman would be utterly null and void. That has been the mind of the Church for the past 2,000 years... and it is the mind of the Church that, in the final analysis, interprets the mind of Christ".

It is now an historical fact that the Catholic Church has been wrong about a number of important issues down through the centuries. Take Galileo, for example, not to mention other areas of concern, about which we now know Christ would have had a different view.

Perhaps Vincent Twomey might allow for the possibility that the Church could be mistaken about women priests as well. - Yours, etc., Jackie Robinson, PP,
