Sir, - Having read C.T. Greenan's reminder (July 16th), of the declaration that the church has no authority to ordain women, I wonder whether Pope John Paul would reach a different conclusion if he were a woman. But then perhaps he would be incapable of interpreting the Holy Spirit if he were a woman? If women are incapable of interpreting the Holy Spirit, then surely this is a very strong argument for not ordaining them? If however, women are capable of interpreting the Holy Spirit, why are they excluded from the teaching authority i.e. the magisterium? - Yours, etc.,
