Sir, - I was most disappointed to hear of the complaints about President Robinson's headwear (or lack thereof) during her visit to the Pope. Do people not realise that the President is not a religious appointee, and represents ALL the people of this great country?
Mrs. Robinson was - and should remain - entitled to dress as she sees fit for any state visits. The fact that a hat would not have been expected had she been a man just serves to highlight the fact that this tradition is extremely sexist, and totally unnecessary. - Yours, etc.,

PS. May I take this opportunity to applaud Mrs. Robinson for the excellent job she has done, and continues to do, on behalf of this nation. She will be greatly missed, and if her successor is half as good we should consider ourselves lucky.
